GCSE people and faces sketchbook

This is my third GCSE sketchbook, from year 11 at high school; and this time we were allowed to choose our topic. I chose people and faces, because I was, and still am, very interested in drawing them. This was one of my lightest and ‘normal’ art I did in school, as you’ll see once you see the abuse work I did in 6th form. Again, the photo’s are in order of sketchbook, and then final pieces produced from that. I enjoyed this topic the most out of all of the ones I did at school. Hope you enjoy them, and feel free to comment.

GCSE distortion and metamorphosis

My second GCSE sketchbook was on distortion and metamorphosis. This was a struggle for me, as I had to choose a topic from a list of ones I had no interest in. That is why there are much less work.

GCSE fashion sketchbook

The following photo’s are from my GCSE sketchbook, with a fashion theme. We had to choose a theme from a list of four themes (which I cannot remember, due to it being 6 years ago) and originally I had chosen circus; but after experimenting I decided I prefer body forms, so went with fashion instead. This was my first GCSE sketchbook, which I did in year 10, and is my first attempt drawing anything realistic and planned out. Hope you like them, feel free to comment.

Present from home

So, it turns out, while I was at home, I managed to catch some sort of bug. I’ve spent the last two days feeling very sorry for myself, but thought that this may be a good time to go through my photo’s from my trip home. This is the first few photo’s of my art – these are from year 9 or 10 in high school, so I was maybe 14 or 15 years old. This is when I started to develop my skills in art, before I ended up taking art for my GCSE’s. This is when I first became interested in art.

Home visit

So, this weekend I’ve come home for my nan and granddad’s 50th wedding anniversary! Got a meal with the whole family tomorrow, which will be great! But, while I’m here I thought I’d take advantage and photograph all my old art work, so that I can post it on here 🙂 It was great fun going through all my old work, and seeing all the stuff I had done and how my work had progressed. I will sort out the photo’s in the next few days so that I can post them over several posts, starting with my oldest one’s and ending with more recent work. So, keep an eye out over the next week or so!

Paint stencils

My newest interest when it comes to art is trying out stencils to paint with. I draw an image and then cut it out, leaving the stencil. I use this to paint over, using water colour paints, to create a unique design. I was inspired by Suzanne Breakwell’s art work, especially her prints which you can see on her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/suzannebreakwellart?fref=ts . I have since shown her and discovered she uses inks, not water colour, and said it’s because they give more vibrant colour; So, for my next ones I would like to get some inks to experiment with. Hopefully I will get them before Christmas, and when I do I will post them too, but for now here are the few I’ve done. Feel free to comment.

Starting over

Okay, I’ve had this blog since roughly 2006 and never really been very good at the whole regular blogging thing… So, I’ve pretty much wiped it clean to start again, in an attempt at making it something I keep up with this time! A lot is going to be changed, including the main theme of the blog – it’s now going to focus on my interests and hobbies, rather than being random dribble about my life 🙂 However, so you know a little about me, this is my intro. As you can guess, my name is Gemma Garrett; But I am not the politician/ Miss UK. I am nearly 21, and am currently in my second year at university. I’m studying Early Childhood, to become a qualified Early Years Professional. In my spare time, my hobbies involve looking after my horde of gerbils/hamsters, writing (stories and poems) […]
